Linux Lite 6.6 is Out! 22 New Languages & Updated Themes/Apps

Linux Lite 6.6 finally is out after more than one month of Release Candidate testing!

Linux Lite is based on Ubuntu LTS, and features lightweight XFCE desktop environment. It’s a good choice for old machine with low end hardware specs, while having a modern looking desktop appearance.

The latest 6.6 release features a large range of languages support, that apply to main menu, folder names, core app names, and context menus. The new supported languages, include:

  • Afrikaans
  • Arabic
  • Chinese – Simplified
  • Croatian
  • Dutch
  • Finnish
  • French
  • German
  • Hebrew
  • Hindi
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Persian
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Portuguese – Brazilian
  • Russian
  • Serbian
  • Spanish
  • Sweden
  • Ukranian

To change your system language, simply launch “Language Support” utility, then click “Install / Remove Languages” button and select install your desired language.

To apply new language (same to Ubuntu), drag your language to the top in first tab, and click “Apply System-Wide”. Also, select your language in ‘Regional Formats’ tab and also apply system wide.

Besides that, the release also comes with the latest icon theme, updated Chrome, LibreOffice, Lite applications, etc.

Linux Lite 6.6 by default is powered by Kernel 5.15. Since, it’s based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, user can easily install HWE Kernel 6.2 (via linux-generic-hwe-22.04 package) or even OEM kernel 6.5 (via linux-oem-22.04d) from system repositories.
