Photo Management Software digiKam 7.3.0 Adds Official ExifTool Support

digiKam, free open-source professional photo management software, now is at version 7.3.0.

The new release adds official ExifTool support to handle file metadata. It adds ExifTool based metadata viewer in the sidebar. The view works exactly as the former Exiv2, but supports a largest list of file formats than Exiv2, and fixes some known issues.

The batch RAW to DNG converter received a major update. So it allows to embed multiple JPEG in DNG Converter, and fixes various converting issues.

digiKam 7.3.0 also adds fully support for Flexible Image Transport System (FITS) and MPO Multi-Picture Formats, including metadata. So it now loads HEIC, FITS, WEBP, and 3D photos in MPO format.

Other features include:

  • New tool to export to inaturalist, a social network of naturalists, citizen scientists, and biologists.
  • Ability to move image to the trash from slideshow.
  • Use multiple cpu cores for duplicate search.
