The Debian project announced its new stable release, Debian 12 ‘bookworm’, on Sunday!
Debian 12, code-name ‘bookworm’, was born after 1 year and 9 months of development. It has 5 years support from the security and LTS teams.
The release features Linux Kernel 6.1, and following desktop environments: Gnome 43, KDE Plasma 5.27, LXDE 11, LXQt 1.2.0, MATE 1.26, and Xfce 4.18.
Also, it introduced the new non-free-firmware source repository. Most non-free firmware packages are now moved out of ‘non-free’, and made into the new repository.
The GRUB boot-loader now follows the rule that by default no longer run os-prober for other operating systems. Meaning installing Debian 12, other dual- or multi-boot OSes may be missing from boot-menu. See this tutorial for how to re-enable it.
