This is a beginner’s guide shows how to install the full-feature screen capture tool Shutter in Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla.
If you’re OK with SNAP, an universal Linux package format that runs in sandbox, simply search for and install shutter from Ubuntu Software.
For those prefer the native
.deb package, Shutter is also available to install via this third-party PPA.
Install Shutter via PPA:
1. First open terminal by either pressing Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard, or searching for ‘terminal’ from system application launcher.
2. When terminal opens, run command to add the Ubuntu PPA (type user password if asked while no asterisk feedback):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linuxuprising/shutter
3. Finally install shutter via apt command:
sudo apt install shutter
You might need to run
sudo apt update first in some derivatives.
Uninstall Shutter & Remove the PPA:
To remove the PPA, run previous command in terminal with
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:linuxuprising/shutter
And to remove the screenshot tool, run apt command with
sudo apt remove --autoremove shutter
That’s it. Enjoy!
