Running Ubuntu, Fedora, or other Linux with GNOME desktop? You can display QR code for the active Wi-Fi network and share it with your friends.
This is done via an extension, which, add a toggle option into the top-right corner system tray menu. So, user can show a QR code for the active Wi-Fi network as easy as few mouse clicks.
With it, you or your friends can scan the QR code with mobile phone to connect to the Wi-Fi with ease. And, by right-clicking on the QR code will copy it into clipboard. So, you can send it to others, or paste into document and print it out!
The extension, ‘Wifi QR Code’, so far supports Gnome from version 40 to 45. Meaning, it will work on Ubuntu 22.04, 23.04, 23.10, Fedora 37/38/39, RHEL 9, as well as GNOME version of Debian 12, Manjaro, and Arch Linux, etc.
Install the Extension for Show QR Code option
For Ubuntu 22.04 and higher, firstly search for and install ‘Extension Manager’ from Ubuntu Software or App Center.
Then launch “Extension Manager”, and use it to search and install Wifi QR Code under Browse tab.
For other Linux, including Ubuntu, just go to the link below in your web browser:
Then use the ON/OFF switch to install it. In case you don’t see the toggle switch, install browser extension via the link in that page, and refresh it.
When done installing the extension, just open the top-right system status menu (aka Quick Settings) and click expand Wi-Fi option to see the new option.
