Linux Mint 20.1 “Ulyssa” was officially announced a few days ago. Here’s what’s new and how to upgrade from the previous Linux Mint 20.
Linux Mint 20.1 features Kernel 5.4, Ubuntu 20.04 package base, Xfce 4.14, Cinnamon 4.8, and MATE 1.24 Desktop environments, a new IPTV Player “Hypnotix”, a new web app manager to turn any web page into desktop application, HPLIP 3.20.11, Chromium browser in main repository, favorites in file browser, and more.
Other than downloading the ISO images, Linux Mint 20 users can upgrade to the new release via following steps:
1. Launch the pre-installed timeshift software, and create a snapshot of your system in case anything goes wrong while the upgrading process.
2. Launch System Settings and disable screensaver to avoid interruption during upgrade. Also upgrade Cinnamon spices (applets, desklets, extensions, themes) if available.
3. Now launch the Update Manager and click on the Refresh button. If prompted, update the Update Manager itself.
Finally go to menu “Edit -> Upgrade to Linux Mint 20.1 Ulysaa”
4. Finally follow the wizard to start the upgrading process.
When everything’s done successfully, restart your computer and enjoy!
(Optional) The new release also features a unified filesystem layout, which can be enabled by running command in terminal:
sudo apt install usrmerge
