Manjaro, the beginner friendly Arch-based Linux Distribution, announced new 24.2 release one day ago on Sunday!

The new Manjaro 24.2, code-name Xahea, uses Kernel 6.12 by default. It updates all the 3 official images with latest desktop environments.

GNOME 47

The GNOME edition now has been updated to GNOME 47, which was initially released in September 2024, along with bug-fixes in 47.1 and 47.2.

The new desktop version features accent colors that’s being in use in Ubuntu for a few years. It allows use to choose the color applies for selection boxes, toggle buttons, check-boxes, and other locations.

It improved the built-in screen recording function with hardware accelerated encoding on Intel and AMD GPUs. And, it now automatically scales icons in overview for better user experience on screens with lower resolutions.

Other changes in GNOME edition include:

  • Persistent Remote Desktop sessions
  • Redesigned open and save as dialog.
  • Enhanced fractional display scaling feature, which provides better support for legacy X11 apps.
  • Ability to play games with Virtual Reality (VR) headsets on Wayland.
  • See HERE for more.

KDE Plasma 6.2

The KDE edition now has been updated to the latest Plasma 6.2.4 + KDE Frameworks 6.8.0.

The new desktop version features a tablet calibration wizard and test mode, allowing to define the area of the screen that your tablet covers and to re-bind pen buttons to different kinds of mouse clicks.

There’s now a new tone mapping feature to help improve the look of images with a brightness or set of colors greater than what the screen can display, thus reducing the “blown out” look such images can otherwise exhibit.

Other changes include:

  • adjust the brightness of each connected monitor separately.
  • improved brightness handling for HDR and ICC profiles, as well as HDR performance.
  • Add Meta (Windows key) + B shortcut key to circle power mode.
  • Discover now supports PostmarketOS packages for mobile devices
  • Support for the full “sticky keys” feature on Wayland.
  • And, see HERE for more.

For XFCE edition, it’s still at XFCE 4.18 as no upstream changes available.
