Apache OpenOffice released version 4.1.9 with important bug-fixes. Users are argued to upgrade as soon as possible.
Apache OpenOffice is a free and open-source office suite made of Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw and Base. It is a close cousin of LibreOffice and NeoOffice.
The Apache Software Foundation announced the release of 4.1.9 a few days ago with bug-fixes. According to the release note, it fixed a crash issue on Mac OS 11.0.1 Big Sur when opening .docx, .xlsx, .pptx files. It also fixed crash issue on DOC to PDF conversion in the headless mode.
The release also contains other bug-fixes. The “.desktop” files via DEB archive are not executable, and the make clean action will delete source when solar environment is not set.
How to Install Apache OpenOffice in Linux:

Select download the DEB package for Ubuntu, Debian, and Linux Mint based systems, or download the RPM package for Fedora based systems. And check out your system type: 32-bit or 64-bit by running uname -m command in terminal.
After that, install the DEB package via the steps below:
- Go to the downloads folder and decompress the tarball.
- Navigate to the DEBS sub-folder, where contains a pack of packages with .deb extension.
- Right-click on blank area and then select “Open in Terminal” option.
- A terminal window will pop-up. Next paste the command and hit run to install them.
sudo apt install ./*.deb
- If LibreOffice was installed on your system, you need to run command to remove
/usr/bin/soffice.sudo rm /usr/bin/soffice - In the same terminal window, run command to install the desktop integration packages:
sudo apt install ./desktop-integration/*.deb
For RPM package, do similar actions by replacing apt with dnf, deb with rpm in the commands.
